Abstract

Background: The prevalence of prehypertension in Indonesia is 48,4%. Obesity is one of the risk factor of developing prehypertension. Obesity can be measured using body fat percentage. A high body fat percentage will increased the level of plasma angiotensinogen, rennin, activity of angiotensin converting enzyme, and aldosterone. These factors contribute to a higher blood pressure. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant association between body fat percentage and incidence of prehypertension. Method: This study is an analytic study with cross-sectional study approach. Data collection was carried out with a total 106 respondents aged around 17- 22 years. This researched was collected from August to September 2019 at Faculty of Medicine and Health Science of Atma Jaya. The research data were collected through filling out a demographic questionnaire, blood pressure measurement using sphygmomanometer, and body fat percentage measurement using bioelectrical impedance analysis. Bivariate analysis of the association between gender and blood pressure, association between gender and body fat percentage, and association of body fat percentage with blood pressure were analyzed using the chi-square method. Result: Bivariate analysis shows that there is a significant association between gender and blood pressure (p=0,001), association between gender and body fat percentage (p=0,000) and association between body fat percentage and the incidence of prehypertension (p=0,000) with OR = 3,992 Conclusion: A high body fat percentage is a risk factor for developing prehypertension.

Abstract

In patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), renal function in maintaining the homeostasis of various metabolic systems of the body is impaired, one of which is the production of erythropoietin hormones. Anemia is a frequent complication of the CKD and contributes to the increasing morbidity and mortality of the patients. Diagnosis or treatment of anemia in PGK is still a challenge due to multifacorial. Hepcidin, a peptide that has been known as an acute phase protein, plays an important role in the regulation of iron metabolism. Hepcidin is known to have a correlation with ferritin, a parameter of anemia screening which is commonly examined during this time. In addition to the role of pathophysiology anemia in CKD, hepcidin is currently widely researched because it is suspected to contribute also to the pathophysiology of bone mineral disorders in PGK. Current research shows that the concentration of vitamin D is inversely proportional to the concentration of hepcidin and is positively associated with the concentration of hemoglobin and iron. The latest report invitro and invivo support the existence of the interaction between vitamin D and anemia in patients with PGK through the role of Hepcidin. Keywords: chronic kidney disease, anemia, hepcidin, vitamin D

Abstract

Background. Body mass index (BMI) is a measurement indicator recommended by WHO to identify the nutritional status of an individual. Measurement of BMI can’t identify the location of distribution of intraabdominal fat (visceral fat) so waist circumference is necessary. Individuals with BMI values that exceed normal values and large intraabdominal fat distribution will cause a physiological adaptation in the body in the form of an increase in blood volume which will cause an increase in blood pressure. Measurement of BMI, waist circumference and blood pressure need to be done as an early detection considering that students have a high enough risk to suffer from obesity and hypertension. Methods. This research was an observational descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Sampling is done by total sampling. Body weight and height measurements were taken to calculate the value of body mass index (BMI), measurement of waist circumference and measurement of blood pressure on students at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya class of 2016. The collected data were presented in table and percentage form. Result. The value of BMI in the category of overweight and obesity is most at the age of 20-21 years (20.6%) and in female (14%). The value of waist circumference in the abnormal category is most at the age of 20-21 years in men (5.3%) and women (11.81%). The value of blood pressure that has pre-hypertension and first degree hypertension is in students aged 20-21 years (20.2%) and most in men (14%). The blood pressure values included in the pre-hypertension and first-degree hypertension categories were most on the BMI values in the overweight and obese categories (18.8%) and in the waist circumference in the medium and large categories (13.81%). Conclusion. The distribution of research subjects based on BMI and waist circumference that exceeds the normal value is most at the age of 20-21 years and in women. The distribution of research subjects based on blood pressure that experienced pre-hypertension and first degree hypertension was most at the age of 20-21 years and in men. The distribution of research subjects based on blood pressure that experienced pre-hypertension and first degree hypertension at most in the value of BMI and waist circumference that exceeds the normal value.

Abstract

Flexibility in the human body is the range of abilities of certain joints or groups of joints in functional unity to move optimally ,smoothly and pain-free. Lumbar flexibility is one of the most important factors that support daily human movement activities, such as walking and bending. Decreased lumbar flexibility occurs as human ages, this is also influenced by other related musculoskeletal complaints such as low back pain. Songket craftsmen generally have complaints of low back pain, due to the position and duration of work. This study was conducted to determine the relationn of low back pain complaints with lumbar flexibility among weaving craftsmen in Palembang. This research is an observational analytic study with cross sectional design using total sampling technique. Subjects were 31 weaving craftsmen in the city of Palembang. Lower back flexibility is measured using the Sit and Reach Test method. Data were analyzed using the Gamma Correlation test. There is a significant moderate relation with a negative direction between lower back pain and lumbar flexibility in songket craftsmen (p = 0.022). The study shows that below normal lumbar flexibility scores were found in 11 people consisting of 9 male subjects (29.03%) and 8 subjects age 18-27 years old subjects (25.80%).
